That Makes Sense

INT NIGHT - BEDROOM

FATHER and seven-year-old SON finish saying their nighttime prayers, and SON is snuggling down into his covers.

SON: How do I even know God is real?

FATHER: …

SON: I mean, I don’t even know where church and all that stuff came from.

FATHER: …

SON looks at FATHER expectantly.

FATHER: (stalling) Well, we believe that God is real because we have faith, and the Bible tells us He is real…

SON continues looking at FATHER expectantly, as if this isn’t enough of an answer.

FATHER: (still scrambling, but finding confidence) I’ll tell you why I believe in God: because you exist, and I don’t think someone as amazing as you could have happened by accident.

SON: (smiling) Well, that makes sense.
